Himachal Pradesh has been hit by another devastating climate disaster. In June 2025, cloudbursts across Kullu, Kangra, and Sainj Valley triggered massive flash floods and landslides, washing away homes, labour camps, roads, and power lines, leaving families stranded and entire villages isolated.
At least 2 people have died and over 20 are feared missing, many of them labourers sleeping in tin sheds and remote hillside homes when the water came crashing down. The relentless rainfall also swept away three individuals in Sainj, while bridges and hydropower infrastructure have been severely damaged, making rescue operations difficult.

“We were asleep when the water hit. We had to pick up whatever we could and leave immediately,” says Suresh, a resident of Banjar, who lost his home and now shelters in a nearby school.
Entire neighbourhoods in Kullu and Manali are without power, food, or access to medical aid. Landslides have blocked critical roads, and villages like Shanshar and Chalogi are cut off completely. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert, warning of more rainfall and cloudbursts in the coming days.
“Everything is gone—our ration, our cattle, our house,” says Vimla Devi from Kangra. “The kids are hungry and the water hasn't stopped.”
As of today, rescue operations are still ongoing, and many survivors remain trapped or in need of basic essentials. Children are sleeping under tarpaulins. Elders are falling sick. And in some areas, entire communities haven’t eaten a proper meal in days.
